Handy Man and Doctor Damian

Doctor Damian is very bored... still. So he has become the base handy man, so to speak. Besides treating the locals, he spends a lot of time building things. At least he's doing something constructive with his time... ha... get it? "Constructive"!!
The following is a picture he took out the door of the blackhawk he rode in on his way to Leatherneck to take his FMF Warfare Board. He passed with flying colors... of course! He was very excited to ride the helo and even more excited to sit by a big gun, and watch them shoot things. Lovely.
This is the sunset where he is. Looks dusty.
The following is a picture of his tent (to the right) that they had to take down because a helo flew right over top of it and snapped the poles. He was inside at the time and got conked in the head by one. Yikes. The thrust of the helo was just too much for this $50,000 tent. Needless to say, the helo did NOT have permission to fly directly over the camp, but did it anyway...
And the pile to the left is all the STUFF that goes IN the tent.
He sent this picture of their workout equipment. I'm not sure where they got this, but this is what he says about it:
"here is some of our gym equipment that is probably from when the soviets were here".
A look at the solar oven he put together.
Brownie bites after 5 hours in the oven... and still not done. Just the way I like them... but not Damian! ;)
The start of the lastest brick oven he has built.
The corregated tin that he cut with an axe for the door to the oven.
And the mostly finished product. They have already fired it up and made some yummy stuff in it. And in less than 5 hours for sure!
He took this and the point is that he built the little pantry shelf to hang on the tent behind him! But he gets in trouble with ME if he doesn't include his face in some of the pictures he sends. And I don't know why, but he is very scruffy in this one. Certainly not meeting regulations!
He took this of one of his corpsmen and a local kid who he made saw a board for him in exchange for some kid stuff that we had sent over. That's child labor at its finest. He's been instructed not to use the stuff we send as labor payment. Not nice! :)
But here is the finished product. A book/stuff shelf!
And above his shelf he hung the dinosaur that Braeden made for him and the soccer ball Lexi made. It's a dinosaur playing soccer in the middle of the nasty desert!
He told me that he has given out all the kid's packs and all the blankets that we sent over. He did take a picture of one of the kids and sent it to me, but you can't really see him in the picture, and the kid doesn't look happy at all. Probably because he had just been treated for a dog bite. Poor kid.
Anyway... we will be sending off our LAST care package to him tomorrow. After that, he will be moving back up to Leatherneck to do their end of deployment health exams. Yay! The time is coming... slowly, but surely!
Hope you enjoyed a few snapshots from Afghanistan!

Great pictures of Afghanistan! He still looks way hot and sweaty, but great. Too bad about the child labor law! It would be a great way to teach them to work.

Love, Mom

I sometimes wonder if Braeden gets to send things to dad that he always says he ismaking for him during preschool. Here's proof that he does! I'm sure the kids loved seeing the things they send dad and it was great for all of us to share your images of his surroundings. Thank you.

About Me

Crazy, stay-at-home mother of three; Alexa, Braeden, and Ella, and wife of Damian! We love life, although sometimes it's just hard to make it through one simple day. We all love each other... more than we can usually show or tell, and we love our friends and family very much! We LOVE the beach, having company, eating out (a rare treat now with three kids 8 and under), swimming, and playing outside!
