End of the Summer Fun

Before the summer was TOTALLY over... we caught the movie in the park last Thurs. night. We watched "Hook", and we were all freezing by the time it was over. But it was fun. We went with Vicky, Vinny, and Alex. We got dinner and took it with us... along with a lot of other STUFF... and had a great time running around until the movie even started! Fun stuff!

Ella asleep. I had to lay her down and cover her up good because Lexi, Braeden, and Vinny needed to go to the potty...

Then she was awake... and then asleep again... get the idea?

And after Alex got his hands on the bag of Kettle Corn... there was no turning back! He loved it, and wouldn't give it up!

And by the end... Vinny had taken off his jacket, leaned over on his lap, and then just fell asleep! Poor kid. It was WAAAAYYYYY past their bedtime. Especially since they had a few technical difficulties when they were trying to start the movie!

The next day we decided to treat ourselves, and therefore our children, as well, to some frozen yogurt at White Lime. This was taken BEFORE they made a ginormous mess! Ella in front, Lexi, Alex, Vinny, and Braeden! Silly kids!

I took Lexi and Braeden to the bathroom, and when I came back Vinny informed me that he and Ella were "sharing". Really, she was sharing with him, but... it's all the same, right??! He cracks me up!

And afterwards we went to check on something. Hence the picture above. If you can't tell, Vicky and I are shoveling a large pile of compost/potting soil stuff into the back of her husband's truck! At NIGHT!

So... let me explain. The night before when we went to the movie in the park, we noticed in some one's driveway in the neighborhood we were in, a pile of dirt with a sign reading "FREE DIRT" on it. It just happened that Vicky really needed exactly that stuff for a garden that she is starting. They even got it from the place where she was going to order it. Some things are just meant to happen, so she asked them if they would take the sign out, and she would come back for it. But by the time the movie was over and we got 5 VERY tired kids packed back into the car, we didn't have the energy to do it that night. So we contemplated doing it early the next morning... well you know how far that went. So late that night... after frozen yogurt, there we were... I had all the kids in my van, and she drove the truck. We obviously looked suspicious... 2 women, both with gardening gloves, shovels, and a big tarp, with bricks and rope... and 5 loud and rambuncious kids... at 10:30 at night! Nice.

I have to admit that the cops even pulled up around the culdesac where we were shovelling, to ask us if we had heard any fireworks or gunfire. We said no... and they proceeded to wish us "a good evening, ladies". Lovely! We were so embarrassed, but if only people knew our circumstances, they would be more understanding... neither one of us has a husband to rely on right now... both are half-way around the world. So we do what we have to do, right? Anyway, we did happen to see the cops at another house with their lights on when we were on our way home. Fun stuff. Always an adventure! Never a dull moment around here!
